Road trip!

Last week we were able to buy a nice little used car to replace my Miata. We also wanted economical for Sam to drive over 40 miles to work. It's a Honda Fit and uses half the fuel as the Lincoln. Our first thought was . . . Road Trip!

Sam's truck route several years ago took him down Highway 70 past Taylor Freeze, which he remembered advertising peach ice cream. An easy 100 miles. Sounds good!

On the appointed day (last Saturday), Sam woke up at 3 AM with a new plan. Why not retrace the whole southern Arizona portion?! Half awake, I agreed.

So at 4:09 AM, we were rolling out our driveway.

Only, I was cocooned in sleeping bags and pillows in the back, where the seats fold down. Comfy!

I awoke almost two hours later as the sun rose in the east. (Yes, it does that here, too.)

Our first stop was Florence and one of our favorite county courthouses.

We also enjoy the unique businesses that small town life necessitates.

Sam likes to stop at historical markers along back highways. These commemorate Button Salmon, whose battle cry is still a University of Arizona legend, and Charles Poston, called the Father of Arizona, who was buried on nearby Poston's Butte.

Yes, this is the flat part of Arizona.

Until we started climbing into the Superstition Mountains.

In Superior, we visited the World's Smallest Museum and speculated how we could make ours smaller.

And it's finally breakfast time!

(To be continued...)
